Deja Studio is opening its first physical space, in residence inside the Millie Savage flagship at 337 Smith St, Fitzroy, for six months from 1 September.
Deja Studio started with a simple observation. A mixed bouquet, chosen for convenience, rarely says as much as an arrangement given proper attention and intention. Some days call for one flower, taken in abundance. Others call for a considered mix. Either way, the season sets the terms, not a fixed template.
Before flowers, there was fibre. For the past six years, Founder Sarah Dimauro has worked under the name Deja as a textile artist. A recent return to study, this time in floristry, carried that same instinct, texture, colour, considered composition, into a new material entirely.
The residency follows the success of SOFLOWER's own time in the Millie Savage flagship, after which the team there decided to keep the format going, opening the space to a new generation of emerging floral designers to create and experiment freely. Deja Studio is the latest to take up that opportunity.
It's also, we think, a genuinely good match. Both Millie Savage and Deja Studio share a maximalist instinct: bold colour, abundance, a willingness to let a piece take up space, matched with a discipline that keeps that abundance from ever feeling careless. Less a coincidence than a shared way of seeing things.
Sustainability sits at the centre of how we work, too. Every vessel is designed to be returned and reused rather than thrown out once the flowers are done, an approach we call The Keeping. Take your arrangement and vessel home, then bring your vessel back for your next order, and each arrangement becomes part of something ongoing rather than a single transaction.
